Patients come to Manipal from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, the rest of Karnataka and abroad for surgery. Most are discharged within a few days, and the weeks of recovery that follow are spent in a house, a rented flat or a lodge near the hospital. Aayan Global sends a trained nurse to wherever the patient is staying in Manipal. The nurse changes dressings, gives medicines, records the readings and helps the patient move about, and a caretaker can be added for bathing and meals.
Our branch is at Kunjibettu in Udupi, a short drive from Manipal, and staff usually start within 24 to 48 hours of the free home assessment. Aayan has provided home nursing since 2015. For planned surgery, call +91 73495 13467 before the date. This page is part of our home nursing services in Manipal.

Who Arranges Care in Manipal
Families who live in Manipal
The nurse takes over wound care, medicines and daily records at home, so the family can rest and keep working. A caretaker handles bathing, meals and moving about.
Patients who travelled here for surgery
Families from Kasaragod, Kerala and other districts often stay in a flat or lodge near the hospital until the first review. The nurse comes to that address, so you do not have to travel back home before the surgeon has seen the wound.
Older people living with a spouse or alone
When children live in another city or abroad, a nurse with a daily log gives the family a reliable view of the recovery and a person who calls them when something changes.
Families on a short stay
Cover can be booked for a few days or a few weeks. Shorter bookings are charged in proportion, and you can step the nurse down to a caretaker when the wound has settled.
What the Nurse Does After Surgery
The nurse works from the surgeon's discharge summary and review dates, line by line. The usual tasks are listed below, and the longer list with common surgeries is on our post-operative care in Udupi page.
- Changes dressings on the surgeon's schedule and checks the wound every day for redness, swelling, discharge or fever.
- Measures and records drain output and keeps drain and catheter sites clean. Removal is done only on the surgeon's instruction.
- Gives painkillers, antibiotics and other medicines at the prescribed times, and injections within the doctor's orders (GNM and BSc nurses only).
- Helps the patient sit, stand and walk as the surgeon or physiotherapist has advised, and keeps the room safe to prevent falls.
- Records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, pain and food intake in a daily log the surgeon can read at the review.
Fever, spreading redness, bleeding, breathlessness, chest pain or a swollen, painful calf need urgent medical attention. The nurse alerts the family and the surgeon straight away.
Handover from Kasturba Hospital and Other Manipal Hospitals
Aayan is an independent home nursing provider and is not part of any hospital. We work from whatever the treating team has written. Bring the discharge summary, the medicine list and the review dates to the first visit, and the coordinator will go through them with you.
- Ask the surgical team before discharge about dressing dates, suture or staple removal, drain care and activity limits.
- Write down the ward or unit phone number for questions, and the date and department of the first review.
- If the nurse is needed in hospital before discharge, ask the coordinator about a hospital-care booking. Whether a private nurse may stay in the ward is the hospital's decision, so check its rules first.
- Keep the last scan and lab reports in one folder, so the nurse and the family can find them quickly.
Planning the Stay Around Review Visits
If you are staying in Manipal only until the first review, plan the nursing around that date.
- Share the discharge date and the review date when you call, so the coordinator can book the nurse for exactly that period.
- Tell us the address and the nearest landmark, whether it is a house, a flat or a lodge, and whether lift access is available.
- Ask whether a walker, commode chair or hospital bed is needed. These can be arranged on rent; see home care medical equipment.
- Plan the trip to the review with the nurse, who can prepare the patient and carry the daily log.
- After the review, decide whether to continue with a nurse, move to a caretaker or end the booking.
Physiotherapy and Recovery Exercises
After knee, hip, spine or fracture surgery the patient usually needs structured exercises. A physiotherapy at home visit can be arranged along with the nurse, and the nurse reminds the patient to practise between sessions and to stop if pain increases.
Cost of Care in Manipal
These are starting prices for nursing and caretaker care in Manipal. The final rate depends on the patient's condition, the care needed and the hours required.
| Care setting | Starting price |
| Care at home | ₹900 – ₹1,200 per day (24 hours) |
| Care in hospital | ₹1,300 – ₹1,700 per day (24 hours) |
| Monthly care | From ₹28,000 onwards |
The coordinator confirms the exact figure in writing after the free home assessment. See the home nurse cost page for how the rate is set.
Choosing the Right Nurse Level
- Needs help with bathing, meals and walking only: a caretaker.
- Needs medicine supervision and routine checks: an ANM nurse.
- Has a wound, drain, catheter or injections: a GNM nurse, which suits most surgical recoveries.
- Has had cardiac, major cancer or ICU-level surgery, or has unstable blood pressure or heart rate: a BSc nurse.
The coordinator recommends the lighter option whenever it is enough. The caretaker vs nurse guide sets out the difference.
