Patient Care at Home in Udupi

Aayan nurse caring for a patient at home in Udupi

Families in Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Kaup and Brahmavar call Aayan Global when a patient is better off recovering at home than in a hospital bed. Aayan has provided home nursing since 2015, and our Kunjibettu branch arranges patient care at home: a coordinator visits, listens to what the doctor has advised and fixes the right nurse or caretaker for the right hours, usually within 24 to 48 hours.

When Home Care Makes Sense

Home care is a good fit when the medical crisis is over but the patient still cannot manage alone. These are the situations families describe most often.

After a hospital stay

Discharge usually leaves the family holding a list of medicines, dressings and review dates, with nobody trained to manage them. A nurse takes those tasks over from the first evening at home.

Long-term conditions

Diabetes, heart disease, kidney problems and COPD need steady monitoring more than one big intervention. Daily readings and medicine checks catch small changes before they turn into emergency visits.

Limited mobility

A patient who cannot leave the bed or chair without help needs safe transfers, hygiene support and repositioning. One tired relative cannot sustain that for months.

Recovery after fracture or accident

Hip, leg and spine injuries call for careful movement, pain tracking and exercises as the surgeon directs, until the patient is independent again.

Frail older relatives

When weakness or poor appetite makes ordinary life unsafe, regular help in a familiar home is calmer than repeated admissions.

Families who work or live away

A paid, accountable carer with a written daily log gives relatives who cannot be present all day something concrete to rely on.

From the First Call to the First Shift

  1. Call the Kunjibettu branch and describe the patient and the doctor's advice in a few lines.
  2. A coordinator visits the home, checks the patient, the room and any equipment, and reads the prescriptions or discharge papers. The visit is free.
  3. You receive a written proposal covering staff type (caretaker, ANM, GNM or BSc nurse), shift pattern and monthly cost.
  4. A matched, background-verified person starts within 24 to 48 hours. Urgent discharge cases are prioritised.
  5. The first week is reviewed with the family and the plan is adjusted if the patient's needs have moved.

What the Care Team Handles

Medicines and injections

Doses are given at the prescribed times and written down. Injections and IV tasks are done only by GNM or BSc nurses, inside the doctor's orders.

Vitals and symptoms

Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, SpO2 and blood sugar are measured on a schedule. Anything unusual goes to the family and, where needed, the doctor.

Mobility and hygiene

Bathing, grooming, toileting, transfers and gentle movement are done with attention to dignity and skin care.

Food and fluids

Meals follow the diet the doctor or dietitian has advised, and intake is noted so poor eating is noticed early.

Wounds, catheters and tubes

Dressings, catheter care and feeding-tube routines are carried out by qualified nurses using hospital protocols.

Guidance for the family

Relatives are shown how to help with lifting, feeding and spotting warning signs, so care carries on smoothly when the nurse is off duty.

Working with Manipal Hospitals

Many placements begin at discharge from one of the two large hospitals in Manipal. Continuity matters more than anything else in those first weeks.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal

Patients leave Kasturba Hospital with a discharge summary and a list of review dates. The assigned nurse follows the summary line by line and keeps the follow-up calendar where the family can see it.

KMC Manipal

For patients treated at KMC Manipal, the nurse keeps a running log of readings and symptoms so the consultant can read the week in a minute at the next visit.

Patients treated at other hospitals and clinics in Udupi are handled the same way: the doctor's written plan comes first.

Monthly Cost of Patient Care at Home

Choosing the Right Level of Care

  • Needs company and help with daily tasks: a caretaker.
  • Needs routine checks and medicine supervision: an ANM nurse.
  • Has wounds, drains, a catheter, injections or tube feeds: a GNM nurse.
  • Has a tracheostomy, IV infusions, ventilator monitoring or unstable vitals: a BSc nurse.

The coordinator recommends the lighter option whenever it is enough. The caretaker vs nurse guide sets out the difference in detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

At home the patient has one-to-one attention in familiar surroundings, away from ward routines and hospital infections. A hospital is still the right place for emergencies, surgery and intensive treatment; home care covers the recovery and maintenance that follow.

Within 24 to 48 hours of the free assessment. If a patient is being discharged and needs help the same day, say so when you call so the placement can be prioritised.

Yes. The coordinator recommends one based on the patient's medical needs, but the decision stays with the family. Some households start with a caretaker and add a nurse for a few hours each day.

For nursing tasks such as injections, dressings or catheter care the nurse needs the doctor's written instructions or the discharge summary. Basic help with daily living needs no prescription.

Monthly rates run from ₹9,000 for a 12-hour caretaker to ₹45,000 for a 24-hour BSc nurse. Qualification and shift length decide the figure, and the quote is given in writing after the assessment.

Yes. The assigned person keeps a daily log of vitals, medicines, food and observations, and the family can ask for a verbal update at any time.
